A few months after graduating from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Recording Industry Studies, I began working with Gaylord Opryland as a Call Center Agent on a seasonal basis. There, I booked tickets for shows, attractions and hotel packages for guests. Not long after, I was hired on full time in the Ryman Auditorium’s Box Office. After about a 1 ½ years at the Ryman, with the encouragement and support of my supervisor and Ryman’s General Manager, I interviewed for a position at the Grand Ole Opry that dealt more closely with my specific career interests including content licensing, project coordination and editing. I've been in the Content & Creative Services Department ever since! My current position is Content & Creative Services Coordinator. My favorite thing about working at Ryman Hospitality Properties has been the degree to which my managers and co-workers have been so friendly, supportive, challenging and encouraging. I think that’s what makes Ryman Hospitality Properties stand out…. In my experience, both the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Auditorium have not only been special places for performers, but special places for employees as well.As a current accounting major and rising senior at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee I had the opportunity to intern over the course of the summer as an Internal Audit Intern with Ryman Hospitality Properties. As an Internal Audit Intern, I worked with the Director of Internal Audit and the PwC Internal Audit team which has given me a vast exposure to Corporate, Property, and Information Technology Auditing. My main responsibilities have been related to the property audits of each Gaylord Hotel. This includes SOX compliance testing, substantive testing and side projects, such as building Excel models or documenting support and procedures. My favorite part of the internship this past summer was visiting Gaylord Opryland for a week during the Opryland audit. I found it very interesting to be on the actual property location. I learned a great deal from meeting with various departments, watching the day to day operations take place right in from of me and seeing how it all tied in with the work I was doing. My internship this summer has given me a much better understanding of accounting, the operations of a real estate investment trust, such as Ryman Hospitality Properties and also a better understanding of the hospitality industry as a whole. I have gained so much from my internship at Ryman Hospitality Properties, and I cannot thank the great people I worked with enough that made this such a fantastic learning experience. My first experience with Ryman Hospitality Properties and the Grand Ole Opry started while I was a student at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana double majoring in marketing and management with a minor in music. That summer I interned with the Grand Ole Opry Entertainment Group Sales Department. When I was searching for an internship online, I knew I wanted to come to Nashville because of the opportunities in the music business. During the internship I focused on administrative work for the department as well as attending some industry meetings. My favorite thing about interning at the Grand Ole Opry was getting to see some of the shows. In addition to that, I enjoyed getting to share my love for the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium with everyone I talked to throughout the day. Through the internship, I grew to love the people I worked with and appreciate the history of the venues. I told myself if I ever got the chance to come back, even right out of college, I had to take it! After graduating, I interviewed and received a full-time employment offer. I am currently working as a Corporate and Convention Sales Manager for the Grand Ole Opry Entertainment Group. While earning my Bachelors of Science in marketing at the University of Florida, I knew my experience outside of the classroom would be instrumental in preparing me for my career. During the spring of my junior year, a friend directed me to Grand Ole Opry's Marketing Internship application online. I found it to be the perfect opportunity to explore a potential career path and gain valuable hands-on experience while working with a trusted and respected brand. During my internship, I was exposed to the various aspects of marketing— promotions, design, digital, sales, sponsorship, social media and more— and then given the freedom to pursue the avenue in which I had the most interest. For me, that was digital marketing. I had the opportunity to work closely with one of the Digital Managers who served as a mentor to me through my last year of college and upon graduation, offered me a full-time position. I will never regret beginning my career at the Opry because of the support and respect I am given by my team as well as the never-ending opportunities I am presented with to learn and grow my skill set. The music isn't half bad either. Since June of 2014 I have worked as the Digital Marketing Coordinator with the Grand Ole Opry Marketing Team!
